Results of our collaboration with colleagues from Italy at MSV Metal Studénka
At MSV Metal Studénka, a.s., at the end of April 2026, we installed a fully modernised, high-capacity Caddy 140 shear for cutting round and square steel bars up to 140 mm in diameter, supplied by an Italian supplier. We have thus replaced the original shears, which were commissioned together with the heating furnace in 1983. These shears were capable of cutting material up to a diameter of 120 mm, either cold or hot. The new shears perform cold cutting only. This has enabled us to reduce CO2 emissions, improve cutting quality, expand cutting capabilities (in terms of dimensions) and increase output. Overall, we have thus improved the efficiency of material cutting within our company.
The equipment can be used to cut steel bars made of standard structural steels, as well as those with very high strength. As part of the equipment’s acceptance testing, for example, we cut a high-strength steel grade with a tensile strength of 1000 MPa (in the as-rolled condition). To give an idea, standard structural steels have approximately three times lower strength. An example of the product following the cutting of a 75 mm diameter bar is shown in the photograph.
